Stretching, in the context of body piercing, is the deliberate expansion of a healed piercing for the purpose of wearing certain types of jewelry. Ear piercings are the most commonly stretched piercings, with nasal septum piercings, tongue piercings and lip piercings/lip plates following close behind.
You can stretch an existing ear piercing into a large-diameter ear piercing. If you do not have piercedears, you can pierce your ears at a large gauge. Typical ear piercings, from a piercing gun, are a smallgauge, such as 20. Professional piercings, done with a sterile needle by a piercer.
Earlobe Piercing Sizes – Most earlobe piercings start out around 20 gauge to 18gauge. Occasionally a piercer will use a 22 gauge needle, but 20 gauge is more typical. Most French hook earrings and standard stud earrings are size 20gauge
