As with many shells the Shiva Eye is made of calcium carbonate.  The operculum of a sea snail, Shiva shell is found in the South Seas north of Australia. Being a part of many shelled animals, it is a calcified disc-shaped, an eye-like and is used in jewelry.

Mother of pearl is made from the inner lining of different mollusc shells, pearl oysters, freshwater pearl mussels and abalone. The iridescent inner lining of the mollusc, called nacre, provides protection from parasites and bacteria. They create this inner lining in the same way they create pearls. . The end result of this foreign object being encased in nacre is a round-shaped pearl, whereas the mother of pearl takes the shape of the shell that it lines.

Carving is the act of using tools to shape ear stretcher from horn by scraping away portions of that material.
